Where can I find a good tax consultant in Brussels?

Are you looking for a (very) good tax consultant in Brussels? And you discover that in fact, nothing could be easier?

Here’s the procedure to follow to be sure of finding the ideal expert (for you!):

1/ Tax is a very wide field, stretching from VAT to personal and corporate income tax, and including non-residents’ tax, the special tax status of ex-pats, etc. So in your Google search, be sure to specify your specific search area. Do not hesitate to ask a precise question.

2/ In Brussels, there are large tax consultancy firms (we are sure you know their names) and medium-sized accounting and tax firms. There are also small tax firms, self-employed experts who have been accumulating experience, sometimes for 30 years. What do you actually need? It’s not just a matter of estimating the possible fees “budget” for you, but perhaps more importantly the availability that you expect from your tax specialist: do you not have much availability yourself, owing to your many activities? Or are you often abroad, visiting clients?

3/ What type and quality of service would you like, in fact? Stupid question: of course, you want advice of excellent quality! Not such a silly question if you think about it: do you want to explore innovative tax solutions that are effective in the short term and legal, but provisional because tax law changes every day? Or are you looking for a simple, efficient service: complete my tax declaration? Clearly establishing your real needs is an essential step.

4/ Before making a final decision, perhaps you might like to make direct contact first, to have the warmth of a meeting to talk about this and that (even by Skype, that works too!): you’re quite right. It’s often an opportunity to see "whether you get on”, and your subsequent email exchanges will be better understood! In these cases, look for “personalised” tax firms, with a few partner tax consultants who are there for you when you really need them!

Your tax consultant will then be a little like your doctor. You need to be able to tell him everything. Details count and are part of the diagnosis and the procedure to follow in order to find adequate solutions... or simply fulfil your tax obligations.
